What you do
An hour inside the Colosseum, with reserved entry that takes you past the line and a guide who uses the time on the building itself: the arches, the tiers, and the crowd of more than 80,000 that once filled them for the games.
You walk the first and second tiers, where Roman citizens sat, while the guide fills in what the ruin no longer shows — how the Flavian Amphitheatre was commissioned by Vespasian, Titus and Domitian in the 1st century AD, and how it came to be named after the colossal statue that once stood beside it.
It is the short version on purpose: the highlights, with an expert, without giving up half a day in Rome.
