What you do
A golf cart covers in three hours what a walking tour cannot cover in a day, and your guide drives while telling you what you are looking at. The cart is private: it is your group and nobody else.
You start at Piazza della Repubblica, with its fountain and the portico of Santa Maria Maggiore nearby, and roll past the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and the Circus Maximus.
Then it goes off the obvious route: up through the residential streets of the Aventine to the keyhole with St Peter’s framed inside it, down to the Pyramid of Cestius, through Testaccio and on to the Mouth of Truth, where you can watch people put their hand in and hear where the legend comes from.
You are dropped off somewhere central, so the rest of the day is yours on foot.
Carts seat up to eight including the guide. A larger party is split across two carts, with a second driver at no extra cost, and the guide leads from the first. Not suitable for wheelchairs or pets, and not recommended in pregnancy; infants travel on a lap. Be there 10–15 minutes before the start.
